Principals Circle Convention on K+12 Program for Basic Education
Plans for the K+12 program of the Department of Education was the central topic discussed during
the Annual Convention of the Principals’ Circle held last November 11-12, 2010 at the CSB Hotel International
Conference Center, Malate, Manila. First hand information on the proposed plan was directly heard from Dr. Angelita
Esdicul, Director 1V of the Bureau of Elementary Education of the Department of Education. This was followed by
an open forum which gave the principals an opportunity to discuss their concerns about the proposed program.
Dr. Lolita Andrada, Director IV of the Bureau of Secondary Education of the Department of Education
also shared what have been done and the future plans of the DepEd in the implementation of the UBD.
During the first day, Ms. Willie Santamaria, who used to be the superintendent of the public schools
in San Francisco was the keynote speaker. An inspiring speaker, Ms. Santamaria encouraged the principals
to take principalship to new heights. As an experienced principal, she was able to impart to the principals
new perspectives and helpful techniques on effective leadership and management.
Part of this year’s program was the awarding of the top performing schools in the Standards
Based Assessment (SBA) in English, Math, and Science, conducted by the Asian Psychological Services and Assessment.
Jubillee Christian Academy in Quezon City and Iloilo Scholastics Academy were recognized as top performing
schools with all grade /year levels having the highest mean scaled ability scores in the three subjects.
Every year, APSA will be recognizing top performing schools based on their performance in the SBA.
